In 2003, over 40 million plastic bottles were thrown away in America alone. Plastic takes over 1000 years to biodegrade, if at all, meaning that every bottle ever made is still here, taking up valuable landfill space and leaking harmful toxins into the ground. Plastic is essential a porous material, meaning that the toxins from it will leak out (including leaking into the liquids that it contains that you’re going to drink.) On top of this plastic bottles require 47 million gallons of oil each year just to produce them, which could be being used elsewhere, or better still, not used at all.
1000 years to biodegrade! thats frightening
ReplyDeleteThat stuff about plastic chemicals leeching into water is horrible. Does that end up in my body?
